Father and son bonding activities

We all know about the importance of fathers spending time with their sons. A son that has an active father or father figure in his life has a better understanding of what it means to be a man and will often have more self-confidence.  This sets the son up for future success, so it is important to engage in meaningful father-son activities which can promote a boy's self-confidence and character development. When it is just father and son, the boy can feel more important to his dad.

Fathers and sons may share many common interests, which can make it easier to come up with activities that both will enjoy.

Fishing
A father and son fishing is an iconic image of paternal bonding. Even if you don’t know much about fishing you and your son will still have fun. Make sure to bring your camera so you can document the big one your son catches.

Playing Ball and Catch
Like the other activities, playing catch with your son teaches him valuable skills that every grown man should possess. Your son’s hand-eye coordination will improve, as will his ability to throw. Kick a ball back and forth to your child and most important, if your son plays sport at school, be sure to go to his games and support him.

Camping
Camping is a classic. It helps you connect with nature, with your manliness, and your son.  A great thing about camping is that you can combine numerous other activities to camping, such as teaching your boy how to start a fire, how to navigate with a compass, how to use a pocket knife, how to identify plants and animals, and how to tie basic knots.

Take him to a sports event
There’s nothing like watching sports to bring men together. Instead of supporting your favorite team from the living room couch, take your son to watch them live and in person. Buy him a hotdog, teach him about the game, and save the ticket stubs – even if he doesn’t want them now, he will someday. Whatever sport you choose to go watch, your son will definitely remember that day for the rest of his life.

Hunting
Hunting is a perfect time to bond with your son. Dad can show his son how to identify and stalk game, how to preserve the environment and the way hunting should be done. This is a great way to pass on your experiences, spend quality time with your son and strengthen the bond between you.

Build something together
It can be anything from building things with legos, and/or blocks to working on a computer. Enter the world of modelling and build your own car, kite or aeroplane together. They will love helping you put pieces together and add the final finishing touches.

Road trips
Road trips can definitely be conducive to father/son bonding. Being in a car for hours on end provides ample time to talk and connect with your son. A road trip can be as simple as a day drive to watch a rugby or soccer game or a complex cross-country journey that takes you to new and exciting places.
